Short description:
The story of a surgeon, head of the family, respectable man who, in his
fifties, goes through a crisis. The logic with which he was building
his successful life starts failing him. He feels he's torn apart
between his wife and a young mistress, finds no satisfaction in his
profession any more, and finds sudden possibility to go up the social
ladder very beneficial. But neither his mistress nor social power
can fulfill his dream about new and different life. Overcoming his crisis,
he returns to his family and to reality from which it is impossible
to escape.
